Clive Waller

Clive Waller held a variety of management positions in sales and marketing for some twenty-five years with Scottish Amicable and Zurich. He became managing partner of the Training Design Studio in 1999, writing and delivering training programmes on taxation, pensions and investment. At the same time, he set up the specialised research-based consultancy, CWC Research with his wife, Monica.

Clive has an MBA from Wolsey Hall, Oxford and is an Associate of the Personal Finance Society.

He is a regular speaker at industry conferences and writes on a variety of issues around retail investment.

He also chairs The Investment Network and is managing director of the Aberdeen UK Platform Awards.

Heather Hopkins

In a career spanning Toronto, Boston, Tokyo and London, Heather Hopkins is a data and research expert specialising in retail investment distribution. Heather is the Managing Director and Founder of NextWealth. She is also a Director of Clive Waller Consulting Ltd and serves as Vice-Chair of The Investment Network and the Schroders UK Platform Awards.

Heather was most recently the head of Platforum, a market-research firm servicing the UK platform market owned by Centaur Media, where she worked from 2013 to 2017. Prior to that Hopkins was the head of research for Hitwise, an internet data analytics company, working from London and Tokyo. Earlier, she was an executive at Dalbar, an international financial-services data company, based in Toronto and Boston.

Heather is also active in philanthropy, serving on the board of directors of The Open String Foundation, which provides classical instruments to children in poverty around the world. She organises the Women in Investments meet-up in London, which supports female leaders in the investment industry. She was named “Team Leader of the Year” by Investment Week in 2017.

Heather writes a column for New Model Adviser and is a regular speaker at industry events.

Justin Urquhart Stewart

Having trained as a barrister, Justin took up corporate finance, working in both Africa and Singapore. He then went into marketing with a focus on corporate cash management facilities. This led him to help found Broker Services in 1986, which went on to become Barclays Stockbrokers, where he was Marketing Director. In early 2001, he co-founded Seven Investment Management, an investment management business that innovated the UK investment market with the introduction of the first Sterling Investment Wrap Account which now manages and administers in excess of £1.6 billion on behalf of professional financial wealth managers and intermediaries.

Justin has a keen interest in developing the investment market to break down as many of the traditional barriers as possible for both private investors and smaller companies. He writes regularly for national magazines and newspapers, and is a frequent commentator on television and radio, both in the UK and abroad.

David Moffat

Born in Zimbabwe and educated in Scotland, David has spent 30 years in the asset management industry with Fidelity, Threadneedle, Mellon Bank and JPMorgan. Following a period working as a consultant for a number of wrap and platform clients, David joined DST in 2007 and is responsible for proposition development and client account management.

David sits on a number of industry bodies, steering groups and boards.

Geoff Towers

Geoff Towers was told by his first boss to learn the investment industry before he offered advice. Consequently he has worked as a salesman, a trader and a fund manager, before becoming Citibank Asset Management’s operations head, running Barclays International Funds Group, and moving on to be the first CEO of Standard Life’s wrap and platform business. From Standard he moved to L&G and then Friends Life to solve challenges around distribution, Cofunds, Pension Freedoms and an Indian joint venture.

Since 2015 he’s been the CEO of Pershing EMEA driving the tough tech and tough ops needed to deliver the robust trading, settlement and custody that investors need to stay safe.

Geoff’s great interest is understanding and closing the gap between what our customers want and what the industry can provide. So despite experience from five continents, he is still learning – although that doesn’t stop him offering advice.

Malcolm Kerr

Malcolm Kerr is a Senior Adviser at EY (Ernst & Young) EMEIA Financial Services. He works with leading life insurers, fund managers, platforms, retail banks, private banks and wealth managers. Assignments tend to be focussed on operational strategy, performance improvement, regulatory change and M&A.

Malcolm is renowned for spending time in his clients’ markets. He is a regular chairman, presenter and facilitator at industry events and a frequent contributor to trade and national press.

Before joining EY 10 years ago, Malcolm spent 5 years with another “Big Four” firm prior to which he held a number of senior executive and board positions in the industry based in the US and the UK.

Simon Farrant

Simon is Head of Proposition, FundsNetwork.

He spent the early part of his career working on the advisory side of the industry at Towry Law, where he held a number of roles including managing the research function, preparing the firm for Pensions A Day and creating a low cost SIPP. In 2006 Simon moved to software provider Distribution Technology, where heworked as domain in expert with DT’s enterprise clients, and was commissioned by ABI and BBA to lead the creation of an early iteration of the Simplified Advice concept, known as Assisted Purchase.

Simon joined Fidelity International in 2009 and since 2010 has been responsible for the proposition of the FundsNetwork intermediary platform. Simon is a Chartered Financial Planner and Fellow of the PFS.

Christopher Read

Chris (Dunstan) Read is founder and CEO at Dunstan Thomas (DT), since 1986. Over the past 3 decades he has been working at DT delivering software solutions across industry and more recently over the last two decades, in the pensions and the savings market. DT’s software platform, Imago, delivers technology and service solutions to support the life cycle of products for providers and platforms.

Chris is also founder of Singing Gorilla Projects a not for profit organisation delivering community based projects in Uganda, that give people choices so that they can enrich their own lives and improve the welfare of their communities in a creative and sustainable manner.

James Rainbow

James became Co-Head of UK Intermediary Business in October 2016. He was previously Head of UK Institutions and Strategic Accounts in September 2013, with responsibility for Schroders’ relationship with our largest distribution partners in the UK.

James joined Schroders in 2007 as Head of Marketing – UK with responsibility for all aspects of our marketing to clients in our UK intermediary and institutional businesses. Prior to joining Schroders, James spent 6 years at Baring Asset Management as Director, Fund Promotion & Marketing, where he was responsible for marketing to clients based in the UK and latterly in Asia. James’ career began in 1996 when he joined John Govett & Co.

Mark Sanderson

With an established career in financial services, I have extensive senior management experience across several global markets. I have proven expertise in successfully establishing and growing pension businesses in the UK and the Middle East. With in-depth knowledge of the global adviser markets and a thorough understanding of the pensions industry and regulatory framework, I have a keen interest in creating innovative retirement solutions that support an adviser’s business and exceed investors requirements. I am also passionate about education on pension solutions.

I am very excited to be driving Praemium’s expansion into international markets with the development of their global pension business and broadening of their international footprint through the establishment of their Middle Eastern operations. I enjoy managing and mentoring my team to get the best from them and am enthusiastic and focused on delivering results on time and within budget.

Alan Easter

Alan has worked in product design and distribution since the mid 80’s. The first part of his career was spent leading sales teams for insurance companies and asset managers in the UK, mainland Europe and the US. After a brief dalliance with the Direct market as Sales and Marketing Director for Interactive Investor, he has been on the advisory side since 2006. During this time he has held a full range of Executive positions including CEO of The Beaufort Group, an advisory and investment management group that he formed.

He is currently responsible for all Wealth Management activities of Irwin Mitchell, one of the countries leading law firms.
