About Jupiter

Jupiter was established in 1985, although parts of the business date back nearly 200 years. By the end of 1994, Jupiter had either grown or acquired the five businesses that it has today: unit trusts, institutional clients, investment trusts, private clients and offshore funds.

In 1995 Jupiter was bought by Commerzbank AG, one of Germany’s largest full service banks. Commerzbank initially became a 75% owner, with the Directors and employees of the Jupiter Group holding the remaining 25%. In 2000 Commerzbank became the 100% owner.

In June 2007, Jupiter’s senior management team supported by TA Associates, completed an MBO (Management Buy Out) and assumed joint ownership of the Jupiter Group with Jupiter’s management holding a majority stake in the business. We believe this transaction is in the best interests of the company and its clients as it ensures that Jupiter retains its autonomy and provides considerable stability for our clients over the long term.

Jupiter’s business is the investment management of pension funds, onshore and offshore mutual funds, multi-manager products, segregated or pooled institutional mandates, hedge funds, investment trusts and private client mandates.

Jupiter was originally created as a performance-driven boutique but has now established a business model to capture a wider client base without shedding its entrepreneurial, talent-driven spirit.

The key to this culture lies in the freedom that is given to Jupiter’s fund managers. Jupiter’s funds are not run by committee: there are no house stock lists and no house view of markets. Each manager has individual responsibility and accountability for their portfolios and house rules are therefore viewed as a restriction on their ability to perform. Each manager can pick stocks from the universe available to them with complete freedom, subject only to the constraints set by the fund / mandate’s objectives. This is unusual in the investment management world, but Jupiter believes it to be central to its ability to deliver consistent, long-term performance.

As a result no one person has been responsible for determining the overall investment philosophy and investment process of Jupiter. Rather, the CEO along with the Heads of the Investment Teams have all been instrumental in ensuring that the spirit of our investment philosophy has been instilled throughout the company and within the investment processes of our product range.
